Eldon Ancel passed away May 1, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness. Eldon was born March 10, 1930 in Flint, the son of William and Manilla Ancel. The family moved to Houghton Lake when Eldon was a small child. He graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1948 and following graduation enlisted in the US Air Force. Eldon served as a crew chief for F51 fighter jets during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1951 and returned to Houghton Lake In 1955 he married the former Beverly Thompson. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2013. Eldon and Beverly moved to Saginaw in 1967. He was employed in road construction for 40 years, retiring in 2001 from Rhode Brothers Excavating. Eldon built many of Michigan’s roads and highways including I-675 through Saginaw. Eldon and Beverly moved to Merritt in 1998 and he returned to Saginaw in 2016. Surviving are his children: James and Tina Ancel of Saginaw, Randy and Melodie Ancel of McBain, Kimberly Ancel of Saginaw and Wesley and Karen Ancel of Midland. Also surviving him are grandchildren: Jeremy and fiance’ Anna, Kyle and fiance’ Erica, Steven, Elizabeth, Della and Harley and great granddaughter Elaina. Also surviving him is a brother Robert Ancel of Dewitt. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Robert McCubbin officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Aetna Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
