Welcome to the memorial page for

Bonnie Jean Hubbard

February 26, 1931 ~ March 22, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Bonnie Jean Hubbard, age 87, of Lake City passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mandy Vogler, who cared for her, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
Bonnie was born in Cadillac, February 26, 1931 and named Freda Hannah Johnson. As a child, she moved to Indiana for a while, lived in Reed City, was taken in and adopted by John and Jessie Ohman, and then renamed Bonnie Jean Ohman. She lived in Reed City until she was seventeen.
Bonnie attended Reed City Public Schools all her life and did very well. In a small town, everyone knows all about everyone, and the townspeople watched her grow. Many had plans for her future. She had plans for herself too and hoped to attend Ferris Institute (as it was called then) and become a Pharmacist. For two years, she took Latin, Math, and all the sciences that were offered in High School. She worked in a grocery store after school, took piano, cello and guitar lessons, and still maintained her grades. Her teachers all liked her and the students called her “the teacher’s pet,” because she did all her assignments and was dependable. The students in her class teased her as she tried to be helpful to them. At her 50th class reunion, some of her friends and
classmates told her that they would not have graduated without her help.
One afternoon Bonnie and a friend went over to Evart to meet the “Hubbard Boys”. She was fifteen when she met the love of her life, George T. Hubbard, and after a couple of years of dating they decided to marry. According to Bonnie in her own words, “There went my plans and I did not attend college”. They were married on August 22, 1948 and were blessed to have eight children.
In April 1961, George and Bonnie were both baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and have been members ever since. Her early training in childhood turned out to be a great help as she studied scriptures in preparation for baptism. It took her eight years to study everything she wanted to learn and she was still learning.
It was her belief that GOD watched over her for all her life. HE gave her life, rescued her at four months of age, gave her a home with parents who raised her, and a foundation in religious matters. HE saved her from the spiritual errors and has kept her safe through many accidents.
Bonnie was a homemaker and a very good mother.
She so enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and lovingly cared for her family. She thoroughly educated herself in the healthcare of diabetes when her son Mark became ill with the disease. She was always busy with her hands and loved working with numbers and accounting. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and the Hawaiian guitar.
Bonnie was treasurer for the Northview Seventh-day Adventist School and the local Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years. She was involved in Community Services of Seventh-day Adventists Church also. She served as the Seventh-day Adventist Church Clerk, Vacation Bible School Director, Sabbath School Superintendent, Secretary and Teacher. She was also a transportation driver of the Northview Seventh-day Adventist School.
Bonnie is survived by her husband George and her loving family: George (Rosa) Hubbard Jr and James (Cathy) Hubbard both of Lake City, Rebecca VanderMeulen of Hayden, Idaho, Nancy (Lloyd) LaFave of Manton, Loretta (Betsy Clark) Hubbard of Cadillac, John (Deanna) Hubbard of Lake City, Mark Hubbard of Cadillac and Carol (Ernest) Wright of St. Helen, twelve grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren, a brother Howard McDonald of Cedar Springs, and special caregiver Sharon Masserang. The family would like to thank Dr. James Whelan for her care.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Troy Hubbard.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Young Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Milligan officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of service.
Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cadillac Seventh-day Adventist Church (Pathfinder Youth Club) with Bonnie Hubbard Memorial in the memo, 560 N. 31 Road, Cadillac, MI 49601.
