Message from Lori Hayes - September 09, 2015 at 03:23 PM

The Hayes Family sends heartfelt condolences to the entire McGiness Family. Our hearts break for your loss but rejoices that he is with many loved ones. He was a wonderful man, kind and generous. I have such fond memories of my Great Uncle Paul from my childhood visits to Lake City to a trip to DC to visit the monuments and most significantly the WWII Memorial. It is our hope that fond memories will bring solace at this difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.Love, Dave, Lori and Peter Hayes Fredericksburg, VA

It was an absolute pleasure to get to spend my Fourth of July celebration with Mr. McGiness, his son Joe McGiness, and his daughter in law, Phyllis McGiness in Lake City this year. What an honor it was to be asked to sit beside a World War II veteran! One of my most fondest memories for me, in my life will be listening to Mr. McGiness proudly sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" next to me in the car. Tears of pride, and joy would not stop as we sang together, and I kept thinking to myself, this is really what it's all about right here. Getting that opportunity to sit in his company, and have him tell me a few of his recollections of his time served will be etched in my mind. God Bless you Mr. McGiness. You are a treasure that God has called home. Please know, that you gave me the "Fourth of July's" to remember, and truly every experience on the Fourth will now be compared to the one that I got to share with you! Thank you for such a fond memory, the smiles, and taking the time to inject me with the same sense of pride as when I came home from the Gulf, with your sweet rendition of the "National Anthem". My prayers are with all the McGiness family, but I know there is no one better to watch over them then you Sir.

Kenny and I have so many great memories of time spent with Uncle Paul and Aunt Jean. He was the last of my uncles, out nine children he lived the longest. It is never easy when you lose a parent or any one that is loved so much. I loved my Uncle Paul he always had a smile for me. May God's love give you peace, comfort, strength. Also thinking of my Aunt Jean. May the peace of the Lord be with you.

Sadly the tears are coming down my face as I write this message. Uncle Paul was the last of of my dads family. Grandma McGiness made the statement to me many years ago. No" No matter what happens in your life the McGiness name is a strong and wonderful name to be blessed with". Uncle Paul, it was so great to be one of your many nieces that loved you very much. And yes Charlie will keep on driving those "big rigs." Thoughts and prayers are with my cousins and families. Carol and family

I had no idea that Uncle Paul had died, my heart goes out to all of you.I remember how he liked to tease, I can still hear his laughter from days gone by,I remember how he always would have a big smile for me every time I saw him.He wanted to know how I was doing and was I home for the weekend to spend time with my mom and dad.The tribute to Uncle Paul was beautiful, I had a lump in my throat when I saw the picture that included my dad, but so glad it was included. I love you all! Love Pat McGiness

Paul was an absolutely model Father-in-law. He warmly welcomed me into the family when Gary and I married. He was always available to listen and encourage. He loved to have family gather for any occasion. His home was always welcoming, no matter the situation. I know that the man I married was greatly influenced by him--in fact they often thought and acted much alike. I couldn't have asked for a better father-in-law. I am blessed to have had him in my life these past 35 years. My prayers go out to the rest of the family as they learn to live without him.He always walked closely with God, and I believe that closeness is even greater now that Paul is no longer limited by this life here on earth. I feel great joy for him in this new and eternal phase of his life. I know he is looking forward to the day when all his family joins him in his Father's house. What a celebration that will be!Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

It's sad to see another one of our "class parents" gone. They were the ones that made our school days as special as they were. Always dedicated to be at all of our school functions. It was nice to look into the crowd/spectators and see those many faces, many that are now gone. We will miss seeing Mr. McGiness around Lake City, just happy he got to be honored by being in the 4th of July parade this year. Thoughts and prayers to your family.
