Lola May Peckham

October 17, 1914 ~ March 25, 2015 (age 100) 100 Years Old
Lola Peckham of Lake City, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the Imperial Point Hospital in Pompano Beach, Florida. Lola had celebrated her 100th birthday in October with a gathering of family and friends at the American Legion Post in Lake City.
Lola May Hoekzema was born in McBain, Michigan, on October 17, 1914, to Emma and Harry Hoekzema. Her parents and seven siblings preceded her in death.
Lola was a beautiful, elegant, and energic woman. She was a member of the Lake City Women's Club, The Little Group, was Past Noble Grand of Rebekahs, and worked diligently, both locally and on the state level, for the Democratic Party. She and her husband operated the Peckham Oil Company which drilled the wild cat well, opening the McBain oil field. When their children were young, Lola was a 4-H leader, teaching many youngsters to cook, can, and sew. She supported her children's activities in Scouts, horses, planting trees, and school events. She loved sewing, collecting, cooking, gardens, painting and her family.
Survivors include her children: Terry (Becca) Peckham of Saginaw, Michigan and Marathon, Florida; Marsha Bowers of Holt, Michigan and Margate, Florida; Mary (Doug) Fritz of Bay City, Michigan; Janis (Bill) Dietrich of Charlevoix, Michigan; Greg (Mary Lou Shaw) Peckham of Lake City, Michigan and Pompano Beach, Florida; her son-in-law Rick (Dawn) Bishop of Swan Valley, Montana; daughter- in -law Pam Peckham of Coral Springs, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Lola leaves 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her son Robert II (Bob), her daughter Dawn Bishop, her stepson John Peckham, and her son-in-law Bill (Marsha) Bowers.
Memorial services were held at the Kraeer Fairchild Funeral Home in Pompano Beach, Florida, Saturday, April 4, 2015.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 9, 2015, in Lake City, at the First Presbyterian Church across from her home on Huron Street. Reverend Janice Jasperse will preside. Burial will be at Mount View Cemetery in McBain followed by a luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church.
