Way back in the early 1980’s in Rollingwood neighborhood was where I first met Nelson through his son Dan who was my friend, neighbor and classmate. What a handlebar mustache he proudly sported. It immediately distinguished him from all the other neighborhood fathers. While he was working those years at Autoworld, I recall thinking that he was right up there with James Bond in terms of coolness because to a young person it seemed that if he was working at constructing a themed amusement park, then he must have something to do with bringing happiness and fun to others. For all the times we neighbor kids were going in and out of his house and often just showed up unannounced, he was welcoming and always had a fresh joke or two handy. Did he continue doing the ’dancing knees’ routine? I recall during summer he’d be wearing cut-off jean shorts, stand up stare down at his knees while making them move up and down independently or together in time to a melody he hummed. He was also understanding and tolerant when Danny, Mark and I made up our minds to build a tiny log and plywood cabin in the course of a day right next to his house. Thank you Nelson also for offering me a place at your dinner table more times than I can recall. On a few occasions, I was lucky enough to tag along on fishing trips to Port Huron and for that I am also grateful. Ann-Marie, Mark and Danny I’m thinking of you during this most difficult time.Phillip Shuart

Absolutely the sweetest man to walk this earth. The greatest handlebar moustache Sporter ever. So sorry for your loss - May happy memories fill your hearts and ease some of the pain.
