John “Jack” Nelson Heasty of Lake City passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at his home. He was 79 years old. He was born on September 1, 1934 to John W. and Wanda L. (Diefenbach) Heasty in Flint, Mi. He married Cheryl Lynn Ryder on August 15, 1998 in Williamsport, Maryland. He served in the US Navy on board the USS Dashiell during the Korean War. Jack retired from General Motors.
He was a member of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard, DAV, and also enjoyed traveling to Navy reunions, family poker night, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Denise Witte of Flint, Terri Hosner of Reed City, Duane Heasty of Flint, John Heasty Jr of Grand Rapids, Sue and Mark Hurlburt of Cadillac, and Michael Geer of Clare; brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Kenneth Heck of Frankenmuth, CJ Ryder, Charles Ryder, Cliff Ryder, and Tamara and Dave Jessee; special friends, Roger (Elaine) French and Jim and Barbara Hanks; grandchildren, Brandon (Melissa) Hosner, Rachel Taylor, Aaron (Melody) Hosner, Ashley Heasty, Jared (Amber) Hurlburt, Mackenzie Hurlburt, Madyson Hurlburt, Ray Lucas, Brittany Heasty, and Mia and Justice Geer; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Howey; sister, Shirley Heck; brother, Clyde Heasty; and grandson, Duane Heasty Jr.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Young Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jim Helmbolt officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday 11:00 am until the time of service. The Cadillac Area Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, in Holly, MI.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Cadillac Honor Guard.
