Message from Mary VanDuinen - April 08, 2015 at 09:18 PM

I always looked forward to going to Fosters Supermarket wondering if Gene would be in. As his days became less and less it was always a Pleasant Surprise to see his smiling face . I ALWAYS made it a point to talk to him. It never failed that he was so Caring and Friendly. I loved his Genuine Kindness and the Smile on his face. He will Truly be missed. Many Prayers to his Children and extend Family . Mary VanDuinen

I worked with gene at fosters he was one person that no matter how bad of a day you were having could just smile and you felt better. He was a very kind and caring person who was there for anyone that needed a shoulder to lean on. To me he was fosters made anyone that walked through the doors feel like they was welcome and wanted it did not matter if he knew you or not.. He is going to be miss very much by so many people and that includes myself and my family..marjorie boyer and al boyer and family
Message from Danita Whipple-Park - April 07, 2015 at 12:18 PM

Gene was a great member of the community. He was a Mason along with all the men in my family. I worked at Fosters for a bit when they did the first remodel. He was always joking around with me and my sister, Dawn. And my brother Kerry worked there too. Then later, I got to know him as a friend of the Tulppo family. He was like a second Dad. He was so good to that family too. Giving them jobs and good fatherly advice. He always called me sweetheart. I know he calls all girls that but it still made me feel special. God be with the Cassidy Family. I know we will all be reunited in glory one day. Take comfort knowing that He has completed his purpose and The Maker is rewarding him right now.

Message from Kim Mosher - April 07, 2015 at 04:48 PM

I don't think there were many people in Lake City that can say they didn't know Gene. He was one of those guys who like everyone has said, always took the time to have a conversation with you and meet you with a smile. Always a pleasure to see him. He will be missed in our community, but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers to the family from the Mosher family.
Message from Bruce & Karen Sage - April 09, 2015 at 06:09 AM

I began to know Gene soon after I bought my place in the late 70s, but we really became friendly with him in 1983, when we first began to do business with him and Joe. I am proud to say that we continued to do business with Gene until now.People have already written about his fine and friendly qualities, always in a great mood and willing to stop and talk. He always listened as he was genuinely interested in the goings on with my wife and I. I want to emphasize that Gene was also 100% fair and honest in his business dealings, I trusted him completely. He left his mark on everyone he touched. We will miss him along with everyone else.Bruce and Karen Sage

We met Gene in the mid 80's at Fosters & then we later stored our boats with him and sold them through him. He always had a smile on his face and was fun to talk to no matter where you ran into him. He always felt like a neighbor should. We will miss him.

Message from John Knapp - April 07, 2015 at 02:54 PM

The last 2 years of high school were special as I worked with Gene at Fosters. We spent an entire night doing inventory at the Main St location. He always remembered that and my family decades later. I will think of my Special Friend Gene as I enjoy fishing on my pontoon I bought from him several years ago. The family will be in our thoughts today and our prayers tonight.John Knapp & family
Message from Missy Comp - April 07, 2015 at 11:55 AM

Working with Gene was a true pleasure. He made the time go so fast and we all really looked forward to closing with him. Those times at Fosters with him were such fun! We got our work done but we laughed, smiled and told stories. It's been well over a decade since those times...closer to two, and yet still, right up to the last to the Iast time i saw him, he remembered me. We hugged and chatted for a moment... I will never forget you Gene-O!:heart::heart: I will forever cherish those memories of our times closing good ol' Fosters. My most sincere condolences to the family. May your memories bring you comfort and a smile to your face, as big as the one Gene always had. God Bless. :blue_heart: Missy McIsaac-Comp:blue_heart:

Beanie, Debbie, Joe, Pam and Cindy and Janet - our thoughts and prayers are with you all and all of your families. It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were all a very special part of a well-lived life. When the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. Hold on to your memories and let them guide you during this time of sadness. May God bless you. I worked with Gene at Fosters and I have so many good memories of him. Gene had a huge heart and always took the time to talk to everyone. He always greeted you with a smile. Even after leaving Fosters, when I would go in there and Gene was working, he always had time for a big hug and catching up. Gene, you were loved by so many and you will be missed by all. RIP my dear friend. My condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Message from Greg Siler - April 07, 2015 at 06:08 AM

Throughout the years, whenever I ran into Gene, he'd always stop what he was doing and greet me with that jolly smile, a firm handshake and good conversation. It was never just a quick hello in passing.Gene had a real zest for life, a sincere interest in other people and an uncanny knack for brightening up one's day. For that, his memory will live on.Greg Siler
