Garland Pruitt, age 91 of Manton passed away Monday September 7, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Garland was born May 3, 1924 in Buford, Georgia to Andrew and Allene (Hammond) Pruitt.
He served his country in the US Marines, during World War II and fought in the Pacific. He was also a veteran of Iwo Jima. Garland was a Marine his whole life.
Garland was employed by the UniRoyal Tire Company as a tire builder.
He loved gardening, pitching horseshoes, swimming and playing basketball.
He is survived by two daughters: Deborah G. (Joseph) Maniscalco and Kathy J. Cook both of Manton, a sister, Geraldine Cheek of Buford, Georgia, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters and his first wife, Lee E. Copenhaver in 2011.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Manton.
