Knowledge of Fred's passing has brought back so many vivid memories. If you believe that one is judged by the way we made others feel when in their presence, Fred leaves an indelible legacy to all who had the privilege to know him. I was simply a preferred HP travel supplier and Fred treated me and my team as true partners, equals with a shared business purpose and humanity. When we struggled, he offered support rather than threatening criticism. When we succeeded, he allowed us to share in the recognition. Seeing the love that he and Jean shared firsthand was a poignant reminder of what is right with our world. Condolences to the extended Swaffer family and to Jean!Fondly, Peter McFadden

I met Fred about l951 when he and his brother visited out church youth group in Wayne Michigan. Eventually, he became my brother-in-law by marriage and we even shared a University owned lodge on a lake on Paris Mountain, in Greenville, South Carolina for a year while the brothers finished their undergraduate degrees. The house was named Haley's Haven, and we swam there all summer, the boys fished and faculty came out to "gig" the water mocassins that lined the shore, and hung them in my front tree!!! The two oldest of his four children and the two oldest of my five children grew up together for awhile. Our families have remained relatively close, despite divorces in both of them....we managed to all get together to celebrate something over the years! Fred will be forever remembered for teaching ALL the children the game of Golden at Christmas time!! Thank you Jean for your years of caretaking and devotion. Thinking of you and all the siblings and their families at this time. With love and blessings to all, Beverly Ballard

I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Fred. I am sorry I never made it out to the house in Michigan, but we had many fun times in Half Moon Bay. He was such a dynamic, loving man. He certainly could keep a room's attention. I will always remember him fondly with love and laughter. He and Aunt Jean also gave me advice in my chosen career of event planning and how to get those "heads in beds". Our deepest sympathies to Aunt Jean and all of the combined family. Uncle Fred was a bright light that will continue to shine from the heavens above where he can watch over all left behind and keep up those get conversations without pain or illness. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we hope the blanket of love, prayers and wonderful memories will cloak you in comfort during this time. With love,Mick and Lynette (Gilliland) Donahue

When I was newly hired to join the HP Travel Team, Fred graciously welcomed me and mentored me until the day he retired. He taught me many things, too many to list here and I will always remember what a true gentleman and gracious professional he was to everyone. I will miss him terribly but I have so many fond memories of working with Fred and all of his teachings are not lost as I pass them on to the many industry professionals that I mentor today. Please rest assured that his legacy lives on... My sincere condolences to all of you and to Jean - thanks for taking such good care of him all these years. Sending you all prayers of strength and fortitude to help you get through this sad part of life.Sincerely,Kevin Iwamotokevin.iwamoto@lanyon.com
