Don R. Halvorsen of Lake City passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 86 years old.

He was born on February 14, 1928 to Herbert and Jessie (Tift) Halvorsen on the Morley Family farm.

He married Deloris D. Denbow on Feb 11, 1950 in Edmore, MI.

Don was a farmer, Dairy Inspector, and owner of the Lake City Insurance Agency. He was a Missaukee County Commissioner for 16 years and also served on many boards in Lake City, including the Lake City School Board, Missaukee County Health Department Board, the Governor’s Mental Health Advisory Board, Missaukee County Mental Health Board, FHA for Missaukee, Wexford, and Mecosta Counties, NEMSAS, Member Services Board, and Missaukee County Sewer Board.

Don is survived by his children, Elaine and Bill Richardson, Don and Melodie Halvorsen; grandchildren, Kristi and John Flietstra, and Don T. and Alexander D. Halvorsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Deloris, brother Gerald Halvorsen, twin sister Donna McNaughton, daughter Victoria and niece Marcie (Halvorsen) Bickler.

Funeral service will be held Monday September 15, 2014 at the Young Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev Jim Siler officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday September 14, from 2- 5 pm at the funeral home

Graveside service will be on Monday at 3 pm in the Higbee Cemetery, Mecosta County.
