Kenneth Tidey Obituary

Kenneth Noble Tidey, lifelong resident of Manton, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at his home with family by his side. He was 90.

Ken was born on October 18, 1933 to William Yale and Sarah (Thiebaut) Tidey in Manton, Michigan. He was a graduate of Manton High School, class of 1952. He then went on to attend Michigan State University on a scholarship for two years before answering the call of duty, serving in the in United States Army during the Korean War Era.On October 2, 1954, he entered into marriage with the former Janet Downey, daughter of DeBlenna and Julia (Mills) Downey in Fife Lake, Michigan. The couple proudly raised four children, Kenneth, Julie, Renee and Kevin. He later received both a Bachelor's Degree in 1959 and a Master's Degree in 1967 from Michigan State University in Education. Ken began his teaching career working at Whitteamore-Prescott for 3 years, then relocated to Alanson for another year and finally ended back up north to Manton Schools from 1962. The couple moved back to Manton to return to the family homestead, which became a Centennial Farm in 1978. On the farm, their family raised cattle and made maple syrup. Ken dedicated his career to teaching and remained at Manton Schools for 25 years, until his retirement in 1987. Throughout the years he taught numerous courses from science to drivers training. He remained actively involved in kids activities and worked with the Boy Scouts for many years also. After retirement, Ken kept busy and continued driving bus, performing GED testing at the prisons, and working Bingo. He was an active member of the VFW and volunteered much of his time at the museum. In his spare time, he could often be found out in his shop woodworking. Ken cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Janet Tidey; children, Kenneth Tidey Jr., Julie (Kelly) Powell, Renee (Tom) Ozanich and Kevin (Tina Humphrey) Tidey; grandchildren, Ben (Erica Rogerson) Powell, Jesse (Ryan) Harrison, Samantha Ozanich, Alex (Rachel Gingras) Tidey, Andrew Ozanich and Rachel  Tidey; great-grandchildren, Miles Powell, Charlie Powell, David Harrison, Cordelia Powell, Daisy Harrison, and Madelyn Tidey.
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Yale and Sarah Tidey; brothers, Frederick, Keith and Rodrick; and a sister, Iris Martin.
  
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hall-Holdship Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 2 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at also at the funeral home. Rev. Jeffrey Swainston will preside. Interment will take place at Soper Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan in Cadillac.
