Joan Evonne Samulson

Joan Evonne Samulson, age 75 of Lake City passed away at home on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Joan was born March 8, 1947 in Grand Rapids to Henry and Mildred Dever.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence K. Samulson on June 6, 2009 in Allegan.

Joni was a fun loving, family oriented woman that was full of spirit. She always blazed her own path, doing things her way.

Successfully being a single mother of four, her love of family was one of her greatest qualities. She was always willing to help anyone in need, never judging a person’s circumstance.  She loved to be needed and would devote all she had to give when needed.

Family get-togethers, casino trips, and yard sales always made her happiest. She loved for her niece to read to her after macular degeneration compromised her sight. She also loved her relationship with her sister, who stayed at her side throughout. The family reunion at her son's house was something she looked forward to every year.

As much as she loved her family and friends, her job gave her much joy. She cared for people for several years as a private duty CNA.

When life led her in a different direction, she met the love of her life, Larry. At 62 years old, she had a true fairy tale wedding and lived the life of a queen till the very end.

Joan is survived by her husband, Lawrence Samulson of Lake City and children: Thomas (Marcella) Dever of Elmira, Tina (Mike) Teschner,  Trixi Schmidt both of Lake City and Tonya (Dwayne) Swallows of Crossville, TN, Rachel (Bruce) Harps of Lake Charles, IL and Brian Samulson of Justice, IL.   She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and     eighteen great grandchildren and a sister, Iva Essenyi of Wyoming, MI

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joseph and Henry Dever.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life in memory of Joan to be held May 7, 2022 at 4:00 pm  at the Lake City Eagles, 4154 W Houghton Lake Rd, Lake City, MI.
