Duane Charles Spohn

Duane Charles Spohn, age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on July 16, 2026.

Duane was born on January 10, 1937 in Manton, Michigan, the fourth and youngest son of  Nigel and Geraldine (Smith) Spohn. After graduating from Manton High School, he followed his brothers’ example and proudly served his country in the Military. While his brothers served in the Army, he chose the National Guard before embarking on a long career in the automotive industry with GM at the Chevrolet Engine Plant in Flint, Michigan. After his 38 years of service at GM, he retired to his home in Flushing, Michigan.

Duane is survived by his eldest brother,  Donald, who is currently living in Coopersville, Michigan, with his wife, Rita and their children, Heidi (Spohn) Ford (Jerry), and Daniel Spohn. Duane’s other two brothers, Bruce and Jimmy, both of whom preceded him in death, were likely at Heaven’s gate to greet him with the Lord and his parents. Additionally, Bruce and Janet’s (who have both passed) children who survived are Suzanne (Spohn) McLennan-Snow (Mike), Pamela (Spohn) Calderone (Lenny), Sharon (Spohn) Piotrowski, Deborah (Spohn) Kalahar (Jim), and step-son, Bruce Merrill, as well as great-nieces & nephews, among all of whom will cherish his memory. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 102 N. Michigan Avenue, Manton, MI 49663. Family and friends are invited to gather following the services for a luncheon also at the church. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
