Melville "Claude" Foster

McBain, Michigan - Melville "Claude" Foster of Marion passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Autumnwood of McBain. He was 88.

Claude was born on January 16, 1930 to Clinton and Edith (Deits) Foster of Marion. He graduated from Marion High School and worked for Michigan Gas Storage and for Matthew McClung as a surveyor. He later owned and operated The Tackle Shack sporting equipment store and taxidermy in Marion.

Claude entered into marriage with Helen Louise (Orvis) Joslin on April 28, 2013. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Marion Rod and Gun Club. In his spare time he liked to read and tie flies for fishing. 

Claude is survived by his wife, Helen L Joslin Foster of Marion and her three daughters: Loretta (Jack) Schonert and Gina Joslin of Marion; Carole (Ross) Meads of Big Rapids, and their families. Claude is also survived by a niece, Jean (David) Raber; three nephews, Paul (Suzanne) Hughes, Steve (Jackie) Jensen, and Phil Jensen; several great-nieces and -nephews, and cousins including Phyllis Crowe of Marion and Dorothy Cunningham of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Joan Jensen of Big Rapids and Sara (Thomas) Hughes of Midland.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a committal service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Marion.
