Cadillac, Michigan- Mary Josephine Canfield, of Cadillac, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Sunnyside Senior Living Center in Cadillac. She was 83.
Mary Jo was born on June 11, 1936 in Cadillac to Howard and Helen (Brady) Paquette. On October 24, 1959 she entered into marriage with James Patrick Canfield at St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac. The couple spent 36 years together until his time of passing in 1995. Mary Jo spent her career working as an LPN for the former Cadillac Mercy Hospital for over 45 years until her time of retirement. She had a passion for helping people and enjoyed volunteering her time to numerous charities and organizations. She was a faithful member of the Mary Magdalene Circle of St. Ann Catholic Church for over 50 years as well as a proud member of the Daughters of the Elks-Daisy Chain Temple. In her spare time, she would search for and collect numerous antiques. Mary Jo was a wonderful grandmother and cherished the time spent with her family.
Mary Jo is survived by her children, Thomas (Mary Jane) Canfield of Cadillac, Brigette (Keith) Sawyer of St. Joseph, Michigan and J. Howard (Barb) Canfield of Cadillac; son-in-law, Keith Nelson of Lansing; grandchildren, Melissa Ransom, Megan Canfield, Elise Canfield, Samantha Canfield, Avery Nelson, Aaron Sawyer, Zach Sawyer, Patrick Sawyer, Katie Canfield and Jim Canfield; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Janet (Richard) Watson, Marcia (Charles) Wilson and Pat (Richard) Powell; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Jolynn Nelson; and her parents, Howard and Helen.
A memorial mass will be conducted on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at St. Ann Catholic Church. Rev. Michael Janowski will preside. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery.
