Evert "Duane" Morris

Manton - Evert "Duane" Morris, lifelong resident of Manton passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. He was 88.

He was born the 10th child of what would become 12 on November 16, 1930, at home in Manton to John and Elizabeth (Bower) Morris.  Duane grew up and attended school in Manton becoming part of the 1949 graduating class.  He married Jo Ann Garn on June 11, 1955 at the Manton United Methodist Church. 

Early in his career, Duane, worked at Chris Craft in Cadillac before going to work as a glazier at Garn Glass Company.  He had a long and productive career working over 33 years before his retirement. Duane loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He taught many of his grandchildren how to fish. Duane had a knack for catching more fish than anyone else. Duane was an avid reader and gardener.  He was a godly man and long-time active member of Rollins Christian Fellowship, where he served as board member and Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He wanted others to know the Lord and would even visit area camps or parks to offer a simple invitation to church on Sunday.  Duane will be deeply missed by his family. He leaves a legacy for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cherish.

Duane is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Jo Ann Morris of Manton; his four children, Pam (Gary) Stauffer of Pittsford, Jim (Melanie) Morris, Beth (Rich) Edwards, and Mary (Matt) Taylor; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Chad (Stauffer); Jessica, Megan, Danielle (Morris); Holly, Jon (Edwards); Jesse, Caitlin, Isaac (Taylor); 16 great-grandchildren; and his sister Priscilla Craner; as well as many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents and ten siblings.

Visitation for friends and family will be held prior to services on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Rollins Christian Fellowship.   Funeral services will follow at 12 noon, also on Saturday, at the Rollins Church, located at 10975 E. M-42 in Manton.  Officiating will be Rev. Robert Lanning and Rev. Bart Glupker. 

Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Manton at a later date in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to Rollins Christian Fellowship. 

The family is being served by the Hall-Holdship Funeral Home.
