Eugene G. Porter Jr.

Cadillac - Eugene George Porter Jr. of Boon, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Munson Healthcare's Cadillac Hospital. He was 72.   

Gene was born on April 2, 1946 to Eugene and Lucy (Knoch) Porter of Boon. He worked at Avon (Cadillac Rubber and Plastics), in the maintenance department. Eugene had a true passion for helping others and was a founding member of the Boon Township Fire Department in 1972. He would later serve as Fire Chief for many years. He could often be found with his good friend Johnny Okoren, working to improve the department, helping out wherever needed or tinkering on one of the trucks.  

Eugene is survived by his loving family, his children; Tim (Lisa) Porter, of Boon, David (Ellabeth) Porter, of Mesick, Bill (Sandy) Porter, of Boon, and Janet (Matt) Gibson of Cadillac; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; ten siblings, Sharon Daily, Wayne "Bob" (Kathy) Porter, Robert (Kathy) Porter, Sue Porter, Terry (Gloria) Porter, Melodie (Randy) Ancel, Cindy Sutterfield, Becky (David) Kumfer, Marion Porter, and Gomer Porter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Art Porter and his parents.

A celebration of life is being planned for the evening of April 2nd, 2019 at the Boon Township Park.
