Douglas Arthur Heupel, 74, of Houghton Lake passed away on Monday April 29, 2019 at Mid Michigan Medical Center of West Branch.
Doug was born on November 12, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to Arthur and Wilmarth (Simpson) Heupel. He grew up in the Akron, Ohio area and graduated from High School in Akron. Doug served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was well know for many years for his breeding and raising of Saint Bernard dogs. He delivered one of his pups to client in Michigan by the name of Lorraine Ruth Thompson. The sale of the pup to Lorraine turned into marriage on November 14, 2009 in Prudenville. The couple worked as a Apartment Managers in the Houghton Lake area.
Surviving Mr. Heupel are three step children, five step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and several cousins in the Ohio area that he had spent his early life, living with and growing up with. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine Ruth Heupel and one step grandson.
Funeral Services for Douglas Arthur Heupel will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Thursday May 2, 2019 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at 4:00 pm. Memorial contributions in memory of Douglas are asked to be directed to the charity of the Donor's choice. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
