David Forrest Austin

MANTON — David Forrest Austin, of Manton passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 16, 2019 surrounded by family and with the care of Hospice of Michigan. He was 77.

David was born on February 19, 1942 in Hazel Park, Michigan to Clifford and Ruth (Van Buskirk) Austin. He was the second of four children. He was raised in Rochester, MI but has lived in the Manton area since 1979.

David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda (Mannila) Austin; children, Darrell (Cindy) Austin of Rochester Hills, Terry (Marianne) Mitchell of Pontiac, Andrew (Erica) Austin of Manton; siblings, Dale Austin, Dennis (Judy) Austin and Doris (Pete) Sova, all of Rochester Hills; grandchildren, Jacob and Axel Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Sandy and Sherry Austin.

He served honorably as a radarman in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Detroit Tigers and Lions, jigsaw puzzles, and computer games including mahjong and sudoku. David spent his career as a telephone technician. He worked for AT&T, the Mesick Phone Company and for Kingsley Phone Company/Century Link throughout his career. He worked in the phone industry for almost 40 years and retired from Cenutry Link in 2008.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hall-Holdship Funeral Home in Manton. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 20th, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior. Interment will take place at Greenwood Township Cemetery immediately following the service. Lunch will be available at the Greenwood Township Hall. Military honors will be provided by the Cadillac Area Honor Guard.
