Daniel Cress Obituary

Grand Rapids, Michigan- Daniel Brian Cress, of Cadillac, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was 62.

Dan was born on August 2, 1956 to Revered Clyde and Dorothea (Schroeder) Cress in Elgin, Illinois. He attended school at H.H. Dow High School in Midland and was later a graduate of Central Michigan University. Dan began his career moving to Alpena where he owned and operated a cemetery vault company for Wilbert Vault. After a few years, he decided to relocate to Cadillac and spent the next 25 years working as a manager for Cadillac Wholesale Tire Inc. a job he traveled around the state making many friends and greatly excelling in. After his retirement, Dan took on the position as a veteran's specialist and funeral assistant at the Holdship Family of Funeral Homes in Cadillac for the last 6 years. He proudly celebrated his retirement this last August.

Dan truly enjoyed spending time outdoors going hunting and fishing. He looked forward to his annual "guys weekend" hunting trips in Harrietta with all of his friends. In the early spring, you could often find him trolling out on the lake catching walleye. Dan liked to golf and was on a group scramble each year where he shared many laughs with his friends. He proudly volunteered his time driving retired and disabled veterans to their appointments each week. Dan was a very talented musician and in his spare time, he would play his guitar and sing. He was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac. Dan cherished the time spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. His favorite memories were made during family get-together's and reunions.

Dan is survived by his loving children, Jacob Cress of Laramie, WY; Juliane (Carlos) Galan of Wyoming, Michigan; and Alexander Cress of Cadillac, Michigan; grandchildren, Andrew and Mia Galan; brothers, David (Debbie) Cress and Dale (Suzie) Cress; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Clyde and Dorothea; and a brother, Donald Cress.
