Cadillac, Michigan - Clare Pearl McCurdy, of Manton, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 with her family by her side. She was 95.
Clare was born as Clara Pearl Pribyl on August 4, 1923, in Omaha, Nebraska to Joseph Pribyl and Theresa (Wagner) Pribyl. She entered into marriage with Reuben McCurdy in Omaha, Nebraska in 1946. The couple spent 50 years together until his time of passing in 1996. Clare answered the call of duty serving in the United States Marines as a corporal during World War II. She attended the Cadillac Mercy School of Practical Nursing from which she graduated on February 13, 1966. Clara spent her career working as an LPN for Mercy Cadillac Hospital for many years while raising her children. She enjoyed reading and would often be found outdoors feeding the birds. Clare and Reuben loved taking special trips and vacations throughout the United States with their children throughout the years. She will be remembered by her family as the crazy cat lady. Clare was a faithful long-time member of the Manton United Methodist Church. She proudly volunteered her time to the Philathea Club in Manton and served as president from 1964 to 1965.
Clare is survived by her children, Sue (Paul) Skiff of Manton and Rodney (Janice) McCurdy of Virginia; grandchildren, Brooke (Nathan) Newman and Ross (Alyssa Russell) McCurdy; great-grandchildren, Autumn Newman; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; father, Joseph Pribyl; mother, Theresa Norman; step-father, Bill Norman; brothers, Bill Norman, Bob Norman, Fred Norman and Joseph Pribyl Jr.; and sisters, Mary Carstens and Margie Benedict.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest with her husband, Reuben, at Quantico National Cemetery in Virginia.
