Wayne Charles Maas

Wayne Maas of Lake City, passed away October 15, 2015 at his home. He was 88 years old.
Wayne was born on May 20, 1927 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Charles and Bertha (Ebert) Maas.
He married the former Sharon Koth on October 14, 1950.
The couple lived in Mt. Clemens, where they raised their two children. Sharon and Wayne were
married for 64 years before Sharon preceded him in death in 2014.
Wayne proudly served in the United States Army during World War II following his graduation
from Mt. Clemens High School.
He was employed by the Macomb Daily, a newspaper published in Macomb County, MI. Wayne loved his job and the many changes he experienced in newspaper composition through the years.
He retired as composing room foreman in 1991, after 40 years of service and he and Sharon moved to Lake City.
Wayne was extremely active throughout his life. While living in Mt. Clemens, he played basketball, baseball and hockey in high school and continued playing league baseball for over 20 years. He also coached little league baseball for many years.
Wayne was active in his churches. He served as a deacon, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and participated in many committees for fund raising and community service. He also helped form a Lutheran mission congregation in Chesterfield, MI.
Wayne was a member of the AMVETS and the Macomb Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He and Sharon were instrumental in the organization and building of the Macomb YMCA in Mt. Clemens.
In Lake City, Wayne was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and volunteered his time in any way he could. Wayne was an active member of the American Legion Post 300 in Lake City.
Wayne loved to golf. He could be found on a golf course any time of year whenever there wasn’t any snow on the ground!
Wayne and Sharon loved traveling around the country and wintering in Gulf Shores, AL in their retirement.
Wayne loved everything he did and never complained. More than anything, Wayne and Sharon loved spending time with family and playing with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his children, Dan Maas and Lu (Richard) Bachman; Grandchildren, Jill (DR) Kwapis, Mary (Jason) Parker, Tristan Maas and Jordan (Karina) Maas; great grandchildren, Madison, Jaxon, Trey, Nate and Evelyn.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either St. John Lutheran Church or the American Legion Post 300, both of Lake City.
