Theodore J. Agema

Theodore J. Agema, age 95 of Lake City, passed away March 21, 2017 at
Munson Healthcare Hospital in Cadillac.

Ted was born February 8, 1922 in Falmouth to Joseph and Jennie (Doornbos) Agema.

Ted joined the Army and was stationed throughout the United States and then sent to Europe in the Occupation Forces. After his military time, Ted married Marjorie Evenhouse in Cicero, Illinois on July 11, 1947. They made their home with their five children in Cicero until Marjorie died of cancer February 19, 1967. He then married Jane (Herweyer) Westveer on August 16, 1969 in Grand Rapids where they made a new home for themselves and their children. Jane preceded him in death on December 26, 2016.

Upon retirement, Ted and Jane moved north to spend their retirement years enjoying the countryside and watching the river flow just outside their windows. With failing health, they moved to Belle Oakes.

Ted is survived by his children: James (Sandy) Agema of Oswego, Illinois, Thomas (Myrtis) Agema of Jamestown, South Carolina, John (Lindsey) Agema of Spring Lake, Nancy (Jeff) Nelson and Susan Potgeter both of Allendale; and step children: Marcia (Brian) Sauntman of Chase, Bev (Gerard) Winkle of Lake City and son in law Scott Kennedy of Birch Bay, WA. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive him,.

He is also survived by two brothers: Kenneth (Birtie) and Alvin Agema, sisters: Cynthia (Marvin ) Baziun, and Ruth Clayton, sister in law, Neva Evenhouse, and brothers in law: Casper Dick, Hank (Janet) Evenhouse, Bernie (Janice) Evenhouse, Rich Herweyer and Jack (Esther) Herweyer.

Ted was preceded in death by sister Gladys Dick, brother Lewis (Nettie) Agema, brothers in law Bob Evenhouse and Orland (Eleanor) Herweyer, sisters in law Til Herweyer and Gezina Agema, stepdaughter Debbie Kennedy and grandson Bryan Agema.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Belle Oakes for the wonderful relationships that were built with Ted over the years. He loved each and every one of you.

Private graveside services will be held for both Ted and Jane. A public memorial service for Ted will be held at the Jennings Community Church on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Aaron Winkle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jennings Community Church
where Ted attended after their move to Belle Oakes.
