Mary Jo (Hanson) Cairy, age 68, passed away on April 2, 2014, after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mary continued to make every day count, even as many of her skills and talents were lost.
Mary was born October 23, 1945 in Saginaw to Edgar and Fidelis (Cotter) Hanson.
Mary devoted her life to serving others, as a nurse, a college professor, an Army Reserve Officer, and as a former Mayor of Lake City. Mary enjoyed quilting and was a talented seamstress. However, her true calling was as a dedicated wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. Her greatest joy coming through the accomplishments and the time spent with her two children and their families.
Mary is survived by her son Matt (Kim) and her grandchildren Grace, Luke, and Emmett; her son David (Erin) and her grandchildren Jack and Liam; her husband of 48 years, Jack, whom she had almost completed training; her brother Eric (Nancy); an extended family that she truly loved and to which she was committed; and a loving network of friends.
Mary was known for her love of life, her wonderful smile, and her compassionate nature. She will be missed by those that loved her.
A Memorial service is planned for 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Lake City, with visitation from 11:00 - 12:00, and a luncheon after the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
