LinaVay (Lynnie) Smith passed away peacefully at Autumnwood of McBain on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the age of 93.

LinaVay was born June 9, 1923 at 213 N. Huron Street in Lake City to Victor and Lenore
(Layman) Peterson.

She graduated from Lake City High School in 1941 and after high school she worked at Fashion Industries in Lake City where she ultimately fell in love with the shop manager named Jim Smith.
They were married September 22, 1950.

Over the years Lynnie enjoyed entertaining guests, bowling, dance club, playing cards and was an avid and sometimes rabid Trojan, Rambler and Flying Dutchman sports fan. She thought the world of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lynnie was a life member of the American Legion Auxilary, President of the Lake City Educational Foundation and an active participant in the Wexford Missaukee Relay for Life Organization.

She is survived by her loving husband Jim of 66 years, and remembered by her daughter, Sharon Smith of Lake City, son Pat Smith of Lake City (fiancé Robin Burns of North Liberty, Iowa), grandsons Scott Smith of Royal Oak, Lucas and Tiffany (Mortenson) Smith of Holland and James and Carissa (Millen) Smith of Lake City. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Macey, Elyse, Avery, Miley, Kadence and Jasper and a sister in law Gail Peterson of Florida.

A special thank you is extended to long time and dear friend Jan Heinze, caregiver Rose Schultz and Laurie Cross from Hospice of Michigan.

LinaVay was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother, Harold Pete Peterson.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 26, 2016, beginning at 10:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 am at the Northland Community Church with Pastor Dave Smith officiating. A luncheon will be provided by NCC immediately after the service.

The great granddaughters have asked anyone attending the visitation or Celebration of Life to wear bright colors in memory of their vibrant and energetic Nana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or Northland Community Church.
