Kathrine Ann Walenjus, age 71 of McBain passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Kathrine was born May 13, 1945 in Detroit to John and Marguerite (Spencer) Telford. She married Anton Walenjus October 18, 1975 in Lake City. Kathy graduated from Redford Union High School in 1963. She was employed for 18 years as a histologist for Mercy Hospital in Cadillac until her retirement. Kathy was a member of the Missaukee County Historical Society and the St. John Lutheran Church in Lake City. Kathy enjoyed gardening, sewing, creating quilts and working in stained glass. She always was game for shopping or taking advantage of a garage sale. Her constant companions were her dogs Maizie and Peper. Kathy’s life was fulfilled by spending time with family and friends, especially at her pool in the summer. Kathy is survived by her husband Tony and children Karri (Clark) Seger of Arlene, Kimberly (Terry) Fineout of Lake City, Teresa (Chris) Miller of Grand Rapids and Jonathan (Sara) Walenjus of Lake City and grandchildren Zachary Szabo, Briella and Brady Walenjus. She is also survived by her sister Suzanne Telford of New Hampshire and brothers John Telford of Northville and Michael Telford of West Bloomfield. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Rozanne Anderson officiating. A time of visitation will be on Sunday, June 5 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice Cadillac Hospital or Spectrum Health Hospice Butterworth Hospital.
