Jerome “Jim” Veldheer, age 81 who was born and raised in Platte, South Dakota, and formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 near Lake City, Michigan
Jim was born October 16, 1936 to John and Jeannette (Van’tHaaff) Veldheer.
After serving his country in the Army, Jim met and married Sandra Lee Sprik, with whom he had five beautiful children. They were married for over 60 years. Jim was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and sang his praises until the very end.!
Over his lifetime Jim was a homebuilder, a barber, a farmer, and the owner of Pheasant Run Hunting Lodge in Platte, South Dakota.
Jim’s heart continued to be in his hometown of Platte, even though he enjoyed spending time attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and looked forward to family gatherings.
Jim is survived by his wife Sandra and children Donald (Teresa) Veldheer, James (Mary) Veldheer, Michelle (Christopher) Blazi, Brian (Brittany) Veldheer and Keri (Josh) Veldheer and his grandchildren: Aaron (Jodi) Veldheer, John Veldheer, Jared (Morgan) Veldheer, Dan Veldheer, Meghan Veldheer, Morgan Dlouhy, Steven Veldheer, Joselyn Dlouhy and Ravyn (Tony) Bauco and 7 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Joyce Polly, Jane (Larry) Mierle, JerralynneTjeerdsma, Jerrol “Buz” (Dawn) Veldheer and Joel (Wendy) Veldheer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters in law: Jack (Arla) Veldheer and Jay (Kathy) Veldheer and a brother in law: Allen Polly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Jennings Community Church, 696 La Chance Rd., Lake City, MI 49651 with Rev. Larry Shetenhelm and Rev. David Gould officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the service time.
Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery.
Memorial contribution may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, Jennings Community Church or VanAndel Institute (Parkinsons Disease Research).
