Jane Westveer Agema
After 95 years on this earth, Jane has reached her final heavenly home on December 26, 2016.
Jane was born July 8, 1921 to Jake and Dora (Modders) Herweyer and was raised on the family farm in Vogel Center. She married Frank Westveer on December 9, 1942, and together they had three daughters. A massive heart attack early in their marriage resulted in his death in 1966, she then married Theodore Agema on August 16, 1969. Soon after she and Ted left the McBain area. After their retirement, they returned to the family farm along the Clam River near Vogel Center. With age related problems surfacing, Ted and Jane moved to Belle Oakes where they were living at the time of her death. Jane was a member of the McBain Baptist Church. Even though she wasn’t able to attend services on recent years, she was very active in her younger years.
Jane was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake. There were always lots of baked goods at her house for anyone who would stop by. Her children never knew what s store bought cookie, cake, of brownie was until they moved out of the family home.
She is survived by her husband Theodore, daughter Marcia (Brian) Sauntman of Chase, Beverly (Gerard) Winkle of Lake City, son-in-law Scott Kennedy of Birch Bay, WA, stepsons James (Sandy) Agema of Oswego, IL, Tom (Myrtis) Agema of Jamestown, South Carolina, John (Loan Lindsey) Agema of Spring Lake and stepdaughters; Nancy (Jeff) Nelson of Walker and Susan Potgetter of Grandville.
She is survived by her two brothers, Richard Herweyer and Jack (Esther) Herweyer of Vogel Center, stepbrother Richard (Judy) Maass of Houghton Lake and stepsister Barb Yarhouse of Marion. Also, she is leaving behind her five grandchildren; Travis (Krista) Winkle, Jeremy (Janelle) Winkle, Aaron (Betsy) Winkle, Keri (Jason) Enyart, and Heather (Larry) Benton and many other step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, first husband Frank Westveer, daughter Deborah Kennedy, brother Orland Herweyer and his wife Eleanor, sister-in-law Til Herweyer, two younger sisters; Ann and Dorothy, stepmother Reatha Herweyer, step-brothers; Bert and Don Maass.
Visitation will be at Young Funeral Home in Lake City, Thursday, December 29, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016, at theYoung Funeral Home with Reverend Aaron Winkle, her grandson, officiating.
Burial will be at the Mount View Cemetery in McBain at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the McBain Baptist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
The family would like to thank Jane’s caregivers at Belle Oakes and all the individuals from Hospice of Michigan who had a part in Jane’s care and home going.
