Ila Mae Monroe, age 83, of Lake City passed away, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at her home.
Ila was born December 6, 1931 in Lansing. She was the seventh and youngest child of Orville Myron and Bernice Viola (Miller) Batemen.
On October 12, 1951 she married Rolland "Dale" Berry of Dimondale where they made their home and raised their children.
On December 1, 1987 Ila retired as a secretary with the State of Michigan, Department of Management and Budget after 30 years of service. They then moved to Lake City and enjoyed life in Northern Michigan until Dale's death on February 16, 1995.
On September 28, 2001 Ila married Harold Ira Monroe. They shared their mutual love of old time country and gospel music, playing and singing in local nursing homes and Senior Centers. Harold preceded Ila in death December 6, 2010.
Ila was a member of the SERA Lansing Chapter, former member and officer of the Lake City Senior Center and an honorary lifetime member and former officer of the Merritt Golden Agers Senior Center. She attended the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lake City.
Leaving to mourn her passing are her children: Kay Wagner and Joy (Stephan) Leland both of Lake City and a son, Tim Berry (Kim Shannon) of Eaton Rapids.
Also surviving her are grandchildren Stephanie (Kirk) Guthaus of Ft. Bragg, NC, Twilight Wagner of Lake City, Allison Berry of Eaton Rapids and great grandchildren: Krysten and Harper Guthaus of Ft. Bragg, NC and several step children, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, both husbands and a son in law, Melvin Wagner, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Young Funeral Home with Rev. Donald VanDyke officiating. A time of visitation will be Monday, July 6, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Cremation will take place with burial at a later date in the Dimondale Cemetery in Dimondale, Michigan.
