Helen Esther Sloat, age 85 of Lake City passed away, Monday, July 31, 2017 at home,
surrounded by her family.

Helen was born November 28, 1931 in Fife Lake to Roy and Rose (Helsel) Ingersoll.

She married William H. Sloat Jr on January 17, 1949 in Lake City. He preceded her in death December 25, 2009.

Helen was clerk for Pioneer Township for several years. She published her own cook book which she compiled from recipes collected from her family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time at her cabin on Ingersoll Lake.

Helen taught many young people in the county how to prune Christmas trees and when Christmas season came she would be busy making evergreen roping and wreaths. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Helen is survived by her children Irene Murray, Christine (Jim) Martin, Dean (Shelley) Sloat and Russ (Shannon) Sloat, 17 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
Two brothers Carl (Edith) Ingersoll and Roy Lee Ingersoll and one sister Ginger Marrow also survive her as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Jr, two daughters Lorraine and Lucille, four brothers, six sisters, a son in law Martin Bradford and two grandsons Clarence “Popper” and William Conner.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Young Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Lewis officiating. A time of visitation will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Burial will take place in the Pioneer Township Cemetery.
