Hazel Mae Marsh of Falmouth passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was 86 years old.
She was born on October 23, 1927 in Riverside Township to John Henry and Wilamenia (Molhoek) Koopman.
She was also known as Sis or Aunt Sis by her brothers, sisters and their families. Hazel was a former, Home EC teacher at the Marion High School and avid gardener working with many varieties of flowers and a passionate quilter.
She is survived by her husband; Carl Smith of Falmouth, children; Marcia (Daniel) Martinez, Donna (Walt) Hull, Carl (Gloria) Marsh, Betty (Leonard) Menerey, Ronald Marsh, Larry(Janice)Marsh, step children; Richard (Fe) and Randy (Fran) Smith, Angela (Skip) Harvey, brothers; Robert Koopman and William Koopman, sisters; Helen Dickerson, Margaret (Russell) Molitor, Carol (Ron) Vyse, Jeanette (Joe) Poggi, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Lyle Marsh, brother, Henry John Koopman and her parents.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 23, at the Merritt Butterfield United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Jeff Schrock officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, at the Young Funeral Home at 3pm to 6 pm.
Burial will be in the Falmouth Cemetery in the spring. Memorial tributes may be directed to the Merritt Methodist Church or Merritt Golden Agers Senior Center.
