Welcome to the memorial page for

Doris I. MacArthur

June 1, 1917 ~ October 16, 2015 (age 98) 98 Years Old
Doris I. (Midge) MacArthur, 98, went to her Heavenly home on October 16, 2015. She had resided at Autumnwood Nursing Home in McBain for the past several years.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, June 1, 1917 to Israel and Delia (Germaine) Hutt, she and her seven siblings endured a rugged existence. This only served to deem Midge, as she was affectionately called, a trailblazer. A pioneering woman with wit and tenacity, dedicated to overcoming all odds, and truly living life.

She hunted; she fished; she could change a tire and fix a car; she sewed and knitted; she golfed and skied; she ministered to and cared for the less fortunate; she was an avid Detroit Tigers fan; she served her Lord.

Midge met her husband, Cameron, while he was ministering to the lumbermen and residents of the small U.P. villages. Together they followed their dream to create a summer bible camp. With financial backing from friends, a commitment to tireless labor and a strong calling to serve, in 1936 the Upper Peninsula Bible Camp was established in Little Lake, Michigan. Midge and Cameron were blissfully married in 1939.

They moved to Harrison, Michigan in 1952, where once again they answered their Lord’s calling by forging a new congregation in partnership with Pastor Gerald Brady. The Long Lake Chapel, where both of their daughters were married, is yet another milestone they created in God’s name through their timeless dedication.

Midge is survived by her daughters Anne Smith of Harrison and Sharon (Jack) Robbins of Lake City and her son David MacArthur of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren Mark Smith, Denise (James ) Robbins, Tracey (John) Merillat, Jeff (Lori) Robbins, Tim (Melanie) Robbins; great grandchildren, Drew Smith, Katie (Jake) House, Bryant Robbins, Kristin (Blake) Downing, Zachary (Megan) Robbins, Samantha (Josh) Crawford, Cameron Robbins, Andrea Robbins, Molly Merillat and Maggie Merillat; great-great grandchildren, Claire Hope Robbins, Hoyt David Robbins, Kenzie Elyse Downing and special nephew “Bucky” (Sally) Hutt.

Her parents and seven siblings, her husband Cameron, and her son in law Larry Smith preceded Doris in death.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff at Autumnwood of McBain Nursing Home for the unwavering care they bestowed on their mother, grandmother and aunt.
