Barbara Ellen Guernsey of Lake City passed away, Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was 81 years old.
Barbara was born September 23, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to William and Edna (Musser) Hand.
She married Wallace Guernsey April 23, 1994 in Cadillac.
Barbara was a cook at the Bavarian Café and also employed at Foster’s Market in Lake City before becoming program director for the Michigan Mental Health in Cadillac where she retired.
She was a coach and volunteered for the Special Olympics in the local area. Barbara had a love of music, crafts, cooking, collecting sewing machines and a special talent of being able to repair just about anything. She loved and cherished her husband and children, but placed God above all.
Barbara is survived by her husband Wallace and her children: Dan (Elyse) LaBelle of Sulfur Wells, KY, Janet (Fred) Bartholomew of Lake City, Michael (Karen) Foster of Searcy, AR, Debbie Booms of Cadillac, Mary (Mike) Snyder of Lake City, Patti (Stantley) Rogers Jr of Manton, Paula (Britt) Vickers of Lake City and Elizabeth (Matthew) Sinor of Elizabethtown, KY. Many Grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren survive her as well.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Kenneth Hand Sr.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Young Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Killingbeck officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice.
