Alice Ingrid Gilde of McBain went to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was 82.
She was born in Cadillac, MI to Iver and Lila Walenjus on Sept. 4, 1932. She married Edward S. Gilde on October 6, 1951 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City.
Early on Alice worked at Smith Brothers Hardware, the Lake City Five and Dime Store and the State of Michigan Highway Department. After the birth of their first daughter she became a full time homemaker and worked beside her husband on the family dairy farm. She enjoyed cake decorating, sewing and quilting, camping and she loved family gatherings, always eagerly planning for the next family event. She was a charter member of the Northland Community Church.
Alice is survived by her husband of 63 years Edward, daughters Jayne (Mark) Dorman and Jody (Kevin) Spaulding, grandchildren Preston and Allison Dorman and Ayla and Josh Spaulding, brother Tony (Kathy) Walenjus and sister Susan (Bill) Nees. Brother and sister in-laws Esther Norman, Cora (Paul) Goresch, Tykie Beerens and Joyce (Doug) Seelye.
She was preceded in death by her parents Iver and Lila Walenjus, sisters Arlene VanderVlucht and Norma Rich. Brother and sisters in law Francis and Grace Gilde, Helen and Cliff Gallop, Dorr and Jeri Gilde, Gordon and Marie Gilde, Anna and Albert Burkholder, Irene and Bill Baker, Jim Norman and Ken Gilde.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 from 4-8pm at Young Funeral Home in Lake City. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Northland Community Church in McBain, with Andrew Whipple officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Reeder Township Cemetery.
